Article directories are a great way to get a business recognized. A business owner who seems informed about their business and their customers will get a boost in sales. People like to buy from someone who knows what they are doing. Writing articles lets customers know the business owner is doing more than selling a product, they are selling a product they understand and believe in.
I think the most easy way to get free traffic on your website is to submit your own written articles on different websites. Visitors daily read new articles and are happy to visit author's website. I do the same and i am getting much better traffic than any other promotional method.

I have used this strategy on one of my sites and it helped me take the site from a PR0 ranking to a PR5 ranking within its first month.

Ya perfectly correct,
You drove a lot of traffic to your sites by keeping updated and new data on your site. Articles, news, links exhange are main sources of keeping your site updated with new data and to attain high google rank.

A good quality article will always be respected. It will increase your site popularity where you can gain more. I too do article writing which helps me in many way..
